From Standing Rock to Divestment to Indigenous Peoples Day, across the country there has been a recent groundswell of organizing in Native communities. Advocacy organization Native Americans in Philanthropy plays a crucial connecting role between grassroots and front-line actors with the grasstops and policy worlds.
Philanthropic investments in Indian Country support community resilience and restoration. However, most philanthropic efforts to improve the lives of men and women of color overlook the distinctive needs of Native Americans. P4P is supporting Native Americans in Philanthropy in fulfilling its mission which includes increasing the amount and impact of philanthropic investment to Native communities, educating America about the issues that affect Native people. Many of these issues impact Native Americans disproportionally, yet they have long been left out of the conversation. Through its work with Native Americans in Philanthropy, P4P is committed to helping ensure that Native American voices are at the table as the country works to address its challenging history and current equity issues. We do this by breaking existing silos between funders and non-profits, shifting existing harmful narratives and catalyzing cross-movement advocacy while providing counsel on communications, partnerships and events.
