Policy change is often preceded by cultural change. And cultural change is often driven by narrative shifts. P4P works with acclaimed recording artist and social justice advocate Alicia Keys to address some of today’s most pressing domestic and international social justice issues. Alicia Keys is an influencer whose life and work has created narratives that speak to our aspirations for a better, more just world, and whose prominence in her field enables her to reach audiences around the world.
P4P’s support of Ms. Keys’ cultural advocacy work includes top level strategy, partnership development and campaign management. Several examples of this work can be found below.
The Dignity Campaign, in collaboration with #Cut50, is aimed at changing policies that currently strip incarcerated women of their dignity. The advocacy campaign, which highlighted the shocking conditions that many women are forced to endure when incarcerated, served as a vehicle to support the “Dignity Act” introduced by Senators Cory Booker and Elizabeth Warren. The bill was intended to change the way women are treated behind bars by reforming visitation, treatment, programming, oversight, and communications regulations.
We Are Here is a coalition of organizations joined together to give Millennials an exciting way to change the world. Keep a Child Alive’s aim is to realize the end of AIDS for children and their families, by combating the physical, social and economic impacts of HIV. KCA was founded in 2003 by AIDS activist Leigh Blake and 15-time Grammy Award-winner Alicia Keys, as an emergency push to get life-saving HIV medication to children needlessly dying of AIDS in Africa. The organization is currently providing financial and programmatic support to 7 grassroots organizations in Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda and India, serving over 70,000 people annually.
